Description for B&B:
Our chambres d'hôtes (a French Guesthouse, or Bed and Breakfast) is located in the small market town of Felletin, just 10 minutes from Aubusson. In the department of La Creuse, in the Limousin Region it is halfway beween Limoges and Clermont-Ferrand in the centre of France, and ideally located to explore the Auvergne region, including La Mont Dore and the Puy-de-Dôme.The main house has been restored, keeping the original features, and adding carefully selected antique furniture. The building is primarily 18th century (the fireplace in chambre 1, pictured left, has the date 1761 carved in it), although parts of it may date back much further (the house is built on the site of one of the four gates to the medievil fortified town).
We offer traditional French chambres d'hôtes with a touch of luxury: large beautiful, ensuite, rooms at reasonable prices. In addition we can provide visitors with delicious vegetarian evening meals.
The cost of staying one night in either Chambre 1 or 2 (1 or 2 persons) is 50 Euros. Chambre 3 can be used as an apartment. It has a kitchen as well as a large bathroom with full sized bath, with rain-shower. Chambre 3 costs 60 Euros 60 with the kitchen or 50 Euros without.
The rooms can accomodate extra beds for an additional charge of 10 Euros per bed per night.
Breakfast is charged at 6 Euros per person.
Vegetarian evening meals cost 20 Euros per person for 3 courses plus cheese and coffee.
Felletin is the gateway to the plateau de Millevaches and is surrounded by beautiful countryside, forests and lakes. La Creuse is a great destination for walkers, cyclists, anglers and (due to it's year round beauty) photographers. Felletin is the perfect base to explore the region, and with it's beautiful churches, and other buildings, it has a lot to see without going anywhere.
The water in Felletin is eau de source which means the water coming out of the taps is the same water you buy in bottles... no chemicals this comes straight from the mountains. It is this water which helps provide Fellis with it's lovely flavour - the beer is brewed in a microbrewery in the town.
The town hosts a bustling market every friday. In winter there is a Christmas market. In the summer months there is a world music and dance festival. Other fêtes, and special "journées" include a book festival (journée du livre), a beer festival (fête de la bière) and the fête de Felletin.
The town square, and the quiet cobbled streets that lead from it, has everything you need; cafés, bars, restaurants, boulangeries, pâtisseries, two small (but surprisingly well stocked and reasonable) supermarkets, banks, gift shops, and a tourist information office. There is also a larger supermarket on the town outskirts, which is also walkable.
The churches are really worth a look for the architecture, and the town has various other little delights such as a former diamond processing plant.
Felletin is as renowned for it's tapestry as it's neighbour Aubusson, and you can visit the famous Pinton factury, the place where they produced the world famous tapestry depicting Christ in Coventry Cathedral. If you are looking for a chambres d'hôtes in Aubusson, why noy try 3 Place des Arbres. Just 10k from Aubusson, our luxury guesthouse is the perfect place to stay.
The river Creuse flows by Felletin, and many a fantastic evening can be had sitting on the banks of the river sipping a glass of champagne, and eating some locally produced cheese on delicious french bread.
La Creuse is a wonderful place to visit. Not only do you get to explore the best of the Limousin region, you are also on the border of the Auvergne. You are only an hours drive from the Puy de Dome. This breathtaking area is well worth a visit. Stunning.
