Description for B&B:

L'Ancienne Ferme has been restored to a high standard of comfort, with many original features retained. There are two bedrooms, each with en-suite shower room, WC etc.

Within the walls, the landscaped gardens are planted with a large variety of trees and shrubs. There are many places to relax here: have breakfast under the pergola next to the swimming pool, or perhaps enjoy a glass of the local, award-winning wine; on the point de vue with panoramic views over the gentle countryside of the Charente-Maritime, and to Cognac.

Coucoussac lies in the "Fins Bois" area of the Cognac producing region. The surrounding countryside of vines and sunflowers can be explored endlessly on foot or by mountain bike (available on request). The nearest golf course is 20 minutes away, as is the beautiful River Charente with cruises and canoe hire. The beautiful coast is 1 hour away.

This region also benefits from a microclimate, making it the sunniest area of France, second only to the Côte d'Azur. There is an excellent Auberge restaurant, serving traditional Charentaise dishes, within a three-minute stroll along the Rue de Bellevue and a good bar/restaurant at Siecq, 1 kilometre away. The famous Cognac houses are within easy reach for tours and tasting, as are around 1500 other local producers of Cognac and Pineau.

The area is steeped in history with many beautifully preserved villages and towns retaining their Romanesque churches and Abbeys.

Directions

Coming from the ports along the northern French coast, we always follow the direction of Rennes, Nantes, and then direction Bordeaux. Bypassing all towns on the route this brings you on to the A10. Taking exit 34 at St. Jean d'Angely and bypassing that town, you are on the D939 in direction of Angouleme. Continue on the D939, until you come to the pretty village of Siecq. At the centre of the village, turn left at the small crossroads, next to the bar, and continue for 1 kilometre, passing the sign "Coucoussac". Follow the road, staying left, you will enter the Rue de Bellevue. After 50 metres there is a large arch in a high stone wall - et voila! You have arrived. From any other direction find the D939 (the main route between La Rochelle and Angouleme), then look for Siecq, midway between Matha and Rouillac. From Siecq, follow the above.
