The chateau is situated at 800m (over 2788 feet) in the the Haute Loire, at the centre of a vast granite plateau, and on the southern edge of the National Livradois Forest Park. The climate is characteristically low mountain plateau, with a surprising variety of landscapes: upland pasture, forests and rocky gorges.It is an ideal place to discover the nearby towns of Craponne sur Arzon (10 minutes by car) La Chaise Dieu (25m) and the world heritage site of Le Puy en Velay, historic centre of the Haute Loire and a starting post for the St Jacques de Compostelle pilgrimage route.

Directions
From St Etienne follow the signs to Le Puy en Velay. Turn off on the road marked Bas en Basset. Follow this until you are nearly at Retournac, a couple of minutes after a village called Jussac there is a right hand turning marked Craponne, take this and follow for about 5 minutes, there is crossroads after a hamlet called La Baraque, turn right here for St Andre de Chalencon.
As you come up the hill from the Laberte river towards St Andre, there is a left hand turning marked STADE, take this, and at the T junction which immediately follows take a left. You are now entering Chazelles and you will see the large wall of the annex ahead on your left. The green iron entrance gates are just after this building on the left. If they are closed ring the bell on the left by the gates and we will open them for you.
